Pure unveils speaker with Alexa and DAB

Two new speakers with Bluetooth, Amazon Alexa and DAB/DAB+ have been unveiled by Pure.

The StreamR is available to buy now for £169.99 at John Lewis. The smaller StreamR Splash device will go on sale later this year for £119.99. Both models will be available in Charcoal or Stone Grey.

The Bluetooth speakers support Amazon Alexa when paired with a smartphone with the Pure Home app over Bluetooth. Alexa is used by holding the Pure button on the top of the speaker and then saying a command. The StreamR speakers don’t have WiFi built-in.

Speaker settings can be customised using the Pure Home app. The app is also used to connect the speaker to Alexa and to advise of available software updates.

Both speakers come with Amazon Alexa built-in and Bluetooth audio streaming. An aux-in connection is also provided with an input lead which wraps around the speaker. Four preset corners are also provided on both speakers. Controls are found on the top of the speakers for volume and source switching. A mono LCD display shows track information at a glance.

In its open state the StreamR measures just over 10cm on each side. The expanding speaker design, which Pure calls X-SPAN, provides 360⁰ sound when open.

The StreamR Splash is rated IP67 water and dust-proof. Pure says the speaker has a “ruggedized design” which allows outdoor listening. It will come with 10W RMS output and rechargeable battery for 20 hours of listening. The speaker measures under 4cm high and weighs under 400 grams.

Having access to FM, DAB and DAB+ stations means the device can provide access to radio stations where no WiFi or mobile data is available.

Pure is best known for its range of DAB digital radios, but last year announced its first speaker.
