Pure unveils Alexa smart speaker

Pure has unveiled DiscovR — their new, portable, Alexa-enabled smart speaker.

The speaker comes with Alexa, the virtual assistant developed by Amazon and pioneered in their own smart speakers. The Pure DiscovR harbours ‘enhanced privacy’, meaning that users can close the speaker to disconnect the microphones for privacy from Alexa.

When the speaker is ‘open’ Alexa can be used to play music, answer questions, read the news, set timers and alarms or control lights around the home.

The Quick Corners function allows users to “preset any Alexa command to launch at the touch of a button” including favourite playlists and stations. Each corner is colour-coded. Touch controls also provide for muting the microphone, volume, track skipping and source selection.

Music Discovery can be activated at the touch of a button and adds any song the user hears on the radio to their Spotify playlist for later listening.

The DiscovR has integrated batteries which provide 15 hours of power. The company says the compact device is made more portable thanks to its “clever expandable acoustic chamber”. When combined with Amazon or Apple AirPlay-2 compatible speakers owners will be able to experience multi-room audio.

Inside the aluminium enclosure the DiscovR has a 45W RMS speaker, rechargeable battery with USB C fast-charging, aux-in connection and Bluetooth. The speaker also has a non-slip base.

As with Pure’s other audio products, the new speaker comes with an “industry leading” three year warranty as standard.
