Living on Anglesey (N. Wales) can I receive Scala Radio on my D.A.B. radio or do I have to buy a D.A.B.+ radio?

The new classical music station Scala Radio broadcasts using the DAB format. Although some new stations use the newer DAB+, Scala Radio broadcasts in stereo on DAB.
You won’t need to buy a new DAB+ compatible radio to receive the new station. If Scala Radio isn’t already in the list of stations on your radio you can try using the re-tune function. If the radio does find Planet Rock and Sunrise Radio UK, but not Scala Radio, you should try retuning again.
However, if you’ve performed a re-scan on your digital radio and still don’t receive Scala Radio it could be due to DAB coverage on Anglesey.
Using the digital radio postcode checker it appears that Scala Radio is available with fair reception in Moelfre towards the north of Anglesey. Unfortunately there does not appear to be coverage of Scala Radio, and stations like talkRADIO and Virgin Radio, in Cemaes, Holyhead or Beaumaris.

The new station also has a free app for iOS and Android devices. As well as listening to live programmes you can listen back to previous shows on-demand. If you already have TuneIn or Radioplayer you can find Scala Radio there too.
Scala Radio is now available on smart speakers, such as the Amazon Echo and Google Home devices. To hear Scala Radio on an Amazon Echo device you would say “Alexa, play Scala Radio”. For Google Home devices you can say “OK, Google, play Scala Radio on Tune-in”.
Finally, if you prefer to use a radio you could consider a model which has Internet radio built-in. The Roberts Stream 218 and Pure Evoke F3 models both receive FM, DAB/DAB+ and online radio stations. As the station has only recently launched it may not appear in the list of Internet radio stations on the radio.
Although it’s possible to add a station manually, or request a station to be added, you might wish to ask the manufacturer or retailer if Scala Radio is present before purchasing the radio.
