Virgin Radio set for digital return

Virgin Radio has announced its weekday line-up with Edith Bowman, Kate Lawler and Matt Richardson joining the station when it launches on Wednesday, 30th March.

Former BBC Radio 1 presenter Edith Bowman will host the Virgin Radio Breakfast Show from 6am to 10am on weekdays.

Speaking about the new show, Edith said: “I feel honoured to be given the responsibility and can’t wait to get started – being the only solo female breakfast show host on national radio is an exhilarating opportunity. Live Bands, films, established artists, new music, interviews and an open conversation with the morning audience is going to be an absolute pleasure.”

Founder of celebrity gossip website Jamie East will follow at 10am with Kate Lawler (1pm – 4pm) and Matt Richardson (4pm – 7pm), with Tim Cocker (7pm – 11pm) completing the weekday schedule.

“We can’t wait to bring Virgin Radio back to digital radio in March,” said Liam Thompson, Programme Director at Virgin Radio.

“This is a completely fresh start for a hugely admired brand – we’ve got a new line-up and approach, and securing a presenter as talented as Edith Bowman speaks volumes about our commitment to making a real impact in music radio.”

Virgin Radio was launched by Richard Branson in 1993, playing rock music and album tracks. In 2008 the station was sold to new owners and became Absolute Radio. The Virgin Radio brand continued in Canada, France and other countries.

The new Virgin Radio UK is one of several new radio stations launching in the UK this Spring.
