Nine new regional DAB stations launch on New Year’s Day

Three regional radio stations have launched dedicated youth stations and specialist 80s music stations.

Signal, Pulse and The Wave launched the new DAB digital radio stations on New Year’s Day, following three Christmas radio stations which went ‘on air’ in November.

The Total Access show, which is broadcast every weekday night on several stations in the UK, becomes an entire standalone DAB radio station. It will be dedicated to “the best current music” and continue to broadcast The Total Access evening show with DJ Elliot Holman each weekday.

Total Access on DAB digital radio will now “uncover the freshest new music and most exciting new artists around the clock”.

Meanwhile Signal 80s, Wave 80s and Pulse 80s will play the most iconic anthems of the decade. They join Signal 1, which broadcasts to Staffordshire and South Cheshire, Pulse FM in West Yorkshire and The Wave in South-West Wales.

The Scottish Sun has also launched Scottish Sun 80s, Scottish Sun Hits and Scottish Sun Greatest Hits stations. The new DAB stations “will play the biggest and best hits of the last 40 years”.

“Whether you are after Christmas classics, 80s chart toppers, greatest hits or the best new music, our new non-stop music stations have got past, present, future and Christmas all wrapped up,” said Terry Underhill, Wireless Group’s Programme Director for Local Radio.
