New shows for BBC Asian Network

BBC Asian Network has announced details of new shows on the station, with Yasser moving to a drive time slot.

The drive time programme will air from 4pm-7pm weekdays. The Official Asian Music Chart will move to Yasser’s Friday programme. The Manchester born presenter started at the digital station in 2012 and has hosted a range of shows. These include a new music show, The Official Asian Music Chart and documentaries like Young, British and Sober.

“It’s an honour to be hosting the infamous drive time slot on the BBC Asian Network, said Yasser.”

“I’ve been an avid listener for years and it’s a dream come true to be hosting such a big show.”

A new talk show is also being launched with Mobeen Azhar. The programme will aim to address issues for young people, Monday-Thursdays from 10pm to 12midnight. International producer and DJ Nucleya has signed to present a new show on Sunday evenings. Bobby Friction continues to feature new music from 7-10pm on weekday evenings.

Nucleya will bring the best in new electronic music from across South-Asia to listeners. He’s previously toured with acts like Skrillex, Major Lazer, Diplo and DJ Snake in India.

Nucleya says: “From having my music played on the BBC Asian Network to being able to host a show is an honour. I hope to use this platform to shed light on some of the incredible young producers making music in India and across the South Asian diaspora.”

The station has also revealed details of Asian Network Residency, which will champion the next generation of new DJ talent. Overnight the BBC Asian Network will join the Radio 1Xtra simulcast, replacing the current BBC Radio 5 live simulcast.

Ben Cooper, Controller, Radio 1, 1Xtra and Asian Network, says: “I can’t wait to hear this brand new schedule full of inspiring, authentic and passionate presenters who will celebrate British Asian culture.”
