The first presenters to be unveiled for STV’s new radio station in Scotland are Ewen Cameron and Cat Harvey.
The duo currently host the breakfast show on Greatest Hits Radio in Scotland and will continue to wake up listeners when the new station launches.
Additionally Ewen Cameron will host a weekend sports programme on the station and Cat Harvey will present a weekend round-up of highlights from the breakfast show.
They join the new Scotland-focused radio station from STV which will play mainstream music and be predominantly aimed at 35-54 year olds. It will be available on DAB digital radio and online when it launches from a new studio being built at STV HQ in Glasgow.
Key presenters and the name of the station will be revealed later this year.
Ewen and Cat are well-known in Scotland for their shows on Real Radio and on the Bauer local network, including Clyde, Forth, Northsound, Tay and West Sound.
The new station is being lead by Graham Bryce, who was previously Chief Operating Officer of Bauer Media UK – the owner of Greatest Hits Radio, Hits Radio and other brands.
Graham Bryce, MD of Audio at STV, said: “I’m delighted to be leading this new venture with STV, expanding its offering into the dynamic world of audio. Radio listening remains robust and with Scots having a strong appetite for commercial radio I’m confident our new national station will offer something different and exciting to the market. This will be a truly national commercial station for Scotland with presenters, news and content focused on the needs and interests of listeners living in Scotland. We believe there is a real gap in the market, and I can’t wait to get started and shake things up.”
STV says that radio is a complementary addition to the Group, with radio listening highest in the morning when TV viewing is typically at its lowest.
“We already have a strong connection with our audiences who know and trust our brand and radio is a natural extension for us, so we’re delighted to be breaking into this market with an exciting new offering for listeners across Scotland,” said Bobby Hain, MD Audience: News, Audio and Regulatory.
“We have a clear ambition to be a top 3 commercial radio station in Scotland by 2030.”
Earlier this month STV announced that David Treasurer will join as the station’s Programme Director.
The creation of the new station marks a return to radio for STV. The group, when known as SMG plc, owned Virgin Radio between 2000 and 2008.
Following the departure of Ewen Cameron and Cat Harvey from Greatest Hits Radio in Scotland the station has announced that Simon ‘Rossie’ Ross will be the new host of the breakfast show. Already on air in England and Wales at breakfast, Rossie will also be heard in Scotland from Monday, 28th July.
